The Egyptian pound was broadly stable against the U.S. dollar in midday trading on Wednesday, extending a period of relative calm in the foreign-exchange market amid steady hard-currency liquidity and improving investor sentiment.
The dollar traded at an average of 49.59 Egyptian pounds for buying and 49.69 pounds for selling across five major banks as of 12:05 local time (09:05 GMT), according to data compiled by Amwal Al Ghad English.
| Bank | Buy (EGP/USD) | Sell (EGP/USD) |
| National Bank of Egypt (NBE) | 49.57 | 49.67 |
| Banque Misr | 49.57 | 49.67 |
| Commercial International Bank (CIB) | 49.57 | 49.67 |
| QNB Alahli | 49.5700 | 49.6700 |
| Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) | 49.7000 | 49.8000 |
The Egyptian currency has traded within a relatively narrow range against the greenback in recent weeks, supported by stronger foreign-currency inflows, improved investor confidence, and easing pressures in the domestic foreign-exchange market.
