Egypt, France’s AFD sign €300 mln financing for universal health insurance
Egypt signed two financing agreements worth a combined €300 million ($340.2 million) with the French Development Agency (AFD) on Wednesday to support the country’s universal health insurance programme.
The agreements, signed in Cairo during a ceremony attended by senior Egyptian and French officials, formed part of a wider package of eight cooperation pacts and memoranda of understanding, according to a statement from the Egyptian foreign ministry.
The package also included a memorandum of understanding to support primary healthcare services and improve the efficiency of healthcare units across Egypt’s provinces.
Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Atty said the agreements reflected the strength of Egyptian-French ties and a shared commitment to supporting development priorities, including healthcare, education, technical and vocational training, and green industry.
Abdel-Atty said cooperation between Egypt and the FDA over the past two decades had supported projects in sectors including transport, energy, water, and infrastructure.
The latest agreements form part of broader efforts by Egypt and France to deepen development cooperation and support sustainable and inclusive economic growth, the ministry said.
