Egypt grants private sector 2 July holiday for 30 June revolution anniversary

Egypt’s private sector employees will receive a paid official holiday on Thursday, 2 July 2026, instead of 30 June, marking the anniversary of the 30 June Revolution. The Ministry of Labour announced on Thursday.

The Ministry of Labour said the move comes in line with Prime Ministerial Decree No. 1986 of 2026, which designated 2 July as a paid official holiday for employees in ministries, government agencies, public authorities, local administration units, public sector companies, and public business sector companies.

It added that the decision was issued in accordance with Article 129 of Labour Law No. 14 of 2025 and forms part of efforts to unify official holiday dates across state sectors whenever possible.

The holiday applies to all employees, while examinations, if any, will continue according to schedules set by the competent authorities.

The minister said employers may require employees to work on the holiday if work conditions necessitate it. In such cases, employees will be entitled, in addition to their regular wage, to double pay for the day or an alternative day off upon a written request submitted for inclusion in their personnel file.

The Ministry of Labour also issued Circular No. 18 of 2026 regulating the holiday for private sector workers and instructed labour directorates and central administration heads to monitor its implementation and ensure its publication at workplaces and production sites.
