Egypt, ADNOC unit AIQ discuss AI applications in oil and gas
Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawy met Dennis Jol, CEO of AIQ, a subsidiary of the UAE’s ADNOC Group, to discuss cooperation in artificial intelligence applications and digital transformation in the oil and gas sector.
Egypt’s Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawy met executives from AIQ, an artificial intelligence company backed by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), on Wednesday to discuss cooperation on artificial intelligence applications and digital transformation in Egypt’s oil and gas sector.
The discussions covered the use of artificial intelligence in hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling to improve well design and execution, increase field productivity, and reduce operating costs, according to a ministry statement.
The two sides also discussed a proposal to establish AIQ Egypt, a joint platform that would combine data from the Egypt Upstream Gateway with AIQ’s technologies to support exploration and production, accelerate decision-making and improve the sector’s competitiveness.
Badawy said artificial intelligence was becoming increasingly important to the petroleum industry by enabling faster and more accurate analysis of geophysical and seismic data.
“Artificial intelligence is becoming a key driver of the future of the petroleum industry,” he said, adding that the ministry was working with partners to deploy digital technologies that support exploration, improve production from mature fields and lower production costs.
AIQ’s Jol said the company had developed artificial intelligence applications to improve seismic interpretation, support exploration decisions and reduce operational risks.
The company also showcased technologies including an artificial intelligence system that can predict failures in electric submersible pumps up to 45 days in advance, as well as platforms for well data analysis and smart camera systems designed to improve operational safety and environmental monitoring.
