Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly discussed strengthening maritime transport and logistics cooperation with Vincent Clerc, Chief Executive Officer of A.P. Moller–Maersk, during a meeting on Tuesday.
Madbouly highlighted Egypt’s efforts to develop the maritime and logistics sectors and maximise the benefits of the Suez Canal as a key global shipping route, while upgrading the waterway and surrounding economic zone to enhance its competitiveness.
He welcomed Maersk’s decision, in cooperation with Hapag-Lloyd, to resume one of its services through the canal, describing it as a positive sign of renewed confidence in the route.
Madbouly said improved security conditions in the Red Sea have contributed to higher vessel transits and the gradual return of large container ships, expressing hope that shipping activity through the canal would continue to recover.
