Egypt’s Damietta Port handles 21 vessels as operations return to normal

Egypt’s Damietta Port handled 21 vessels and recorded 5,447 truck movements on Thursday, according to official data, as the Mediterranean trade hub continued normal operations following the drone-linked fire aboard two vessels on 29 July.

General cargo exports totalled 23,704 metric tons, including beet pulp feed and gypsum, while imports reached 25,545 tons, led by timber and iron, according to data released by the Cabinet Media Centre.

Container exports reached 194 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), while imports totalled 1,029 TEUs. Transit container traffic stood at 1,614 TEUs.

The port’s public-sector grain silos held 98,120 metric tons of wheat, while private-sector warehouses contained a further 45,993 tons, the data showed.

The Cabinet Media Centre said vessel arrivals and departures, cargo handling, storage, and inland transport operations continued normally across all terminals.

The update follows government statements earlier the day that Damietta Port had resumed full operations after a fire aboard two vessels on 29 July. Egyptian authorities said preliminary investigations found that a drone caused the incident, while investigations remain ongoing and no group has claimed responsibility.
