Egypt’s real estate tax app draws 612,000 taxpayer accounts in 2 months – minister

More than 612,000 taxpayers opened electronic accounts through Egypt’s real estate tax mobile application in the first two months of a new tax facilitation package, Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk said on Monday.

Taxpayers submitted 490,000 tax declarations covering more than 830,000 real estate units during the period, including 636,000 residential units, 188,000 non-residential units, and more than 6,000 other establishments, Kouchouk added in a statement.

They also paid 28 million Egyptian pounds ($549,234) in real estate tax on account to benefit from the new facilities, he said.

Kouchouk said citizens’ confidence in the real estate tax facilitation package was reflected in the notable uptake of the mobile application.

“We thank the taxpayers who responded to us,” Kouchouk said, adding that the Finance Ministry would continue to simplify procedures, develop the application and address challenges faced by taxpayers.
