Egypt’s gas system meets record summer demand – minister

Egypt’s natural gas supply system successfully met the needs of power plants and industrial facilities during the summer peak for the second consecutive year, as electricity loads exceeded 40,000 megawatts (MW).

The achievement was highlighted on Wednesday during Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi’s inspection of the National Advanced Transmission and Automation Centre (Nata), where he reviewed gas supplies and network operations.

Badawi said proactive planning and coordination with the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy enabled Egypt to manage unprecedented increases in energy demand while maintaining regular gas supplies to the domestic market.

He added that planning and enhanced readiness helped maintain the stability of the national natural gas grid and ensured a rapid response to potential changes and emergencies.

Badawi said the ministry will continue implementing its plan to secure natural gas supplies through the end of summer by closely monitoring production, consumption and supply flows and strengthening the network’s readiness.
