Egypt’s Sisi, Orange CEO discuss digital health project, investment

Egypt is seeking to expand cooperation with Orange Group, including on the second phase of its National Digital Health Project, the presidency said after President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with the French telecom company’s CEO Christel Heydemann on Sunday.

Sisi and Heydemann discussed cooperation in communications and information technology, the presidency said.

The partnership could draw on Orange’s expertise in digital infrastructure, cloud computing, cybersecurity and systems integration, it said.

Sisi praised Orange’s work in Egypt across telecommunications, digital transformation, smart platforms, community development and digital education. He said Egypt looked forward to increased investment by the group in the Egyptian market.

He said Egypt offered promising opportunities for growth and expansion, alongside government initiatives launched in recent years to develop the capabilities of young Egyptians and help them use new technologies.

Heydemann said Orange’s successes in Egypt, achieved in cooperation with the Communications and Information Technology Ministry and other state institutions, provided a successful model that could be replicated in other countries in the region, particularly in Africa, the statement said.

She also praised government efforts to support startups across Egypt and its programmes to develop young people’s skills, promote innovation, and support entrepreneurship.
