Egypt, African trade bank TDB discuss financing to help exporters expand

Egypt’s Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Mohamed Farid met with Admassu Tadesse, Co-Chairperson and Managing Director of Africa’s Trade and Development Bank (TDB), to discuss expanding cooperation in trade finance and investment, the ministry said on Saturday.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Alamein Africa Forum and was attended by the heads of Egypt’s General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), Commercial Representation Authority, Export Development Authority, and the Sovereign Fund of Egypt (TSFE).

The discussions focused on how Egypt could use TDB Group’s financing instruments to support local companies across various sectors and help exporters expand into African markets, the ministry said.

The two sides also explored potential financing mechanisms for non-bank financial services companies.

They discussed strengthening ties between TDB Group and Egypt’s business community through coordination with export councils and relevant institutions to identify the needs of Egyptian companies and projects seeking to expand across Africa.

Both sides stressed the importance of continued dialogue to identify priority areas for cooperation and strengthen trade and investment ties between Egypt and other African countries.

Established in 1985, TDB is an investment-grade regional development finance institution with an asset base of $10 billion. It finances trade, promotes regional economic integration, and supports sustainable development across Africa.

TDB provides short- and long-term financing to governments, financial institutions and businesses, including small and medium-sized enterprises. Its offerings include bilateral and syndicated loans, equity investments, guarantees and export credit financing, alongside advisory, asset management, and agency services.
