URGENT: Egypt denies fuel price hike rumours, says current rates unchanged
Egypt denied reports of an imminent fuel price increase, saying the committee overseeing its automatic fuel-pricing mechanism had not met to consider any changes and that current prices remained unchanged.
The Petroleum Ministry said in a statement that the prices circulating on social media as new official rates were inaccurate and did not reflect any government decision. The committee had issued no decision or recommendation on changing petroleum product prices, it added.
Any future decisions on petroleum product prices would be announced through the ministry’s official channels, it said.
The ministry also referred to a statement issued on 24 Sept denying similar reports and urged the public to rely on official sources rather than unverified information circulating on social media.
LPG supplies remain stable
The ministry separately denied reports of liquefied petroleum gas cylinder shortages in some governorates, saying production and distribution were operating normally.
Refineries were producing and supplying LPG at normal rates, while bulk stocks for cylinder filling remained available at filling plants, which were operating at full capacity in line with market needs, the ministry said.
Transportation, filling, and distribution operations were also running regularly, with sufficient quantities being supplied across the country to meet consumer demand, it added.
The ministry said it was monitoring production, stocks, and distribution daily to ensure supplies reached all areas without disruption. It reiterated that announcements concerning petroleum product prices and domestic supplies should be obtained through its official channels.
