Egypt’s Dar Al-Ifta, the main authority responsible for issuing religious edicts, announced that the Islamic holy month of Ramadan will start on Sunday.
Muslims fast from dawn until dusk for a month during Ramadan, pursuant to Islamic doctrine.
Ramadan comes roughly 10 days earlier every year, with noon-time temperatures expected to reach up to 40 degrees this year.
Daylight saving time, which was recently re-applied in Egypt, will be suspended for the duration of the month. Standard time in Egypt is GMT (UTC) + 2 and GMT + 3 during daylight saving time.
