Ardeshir Saad mohammadi, managing director of National Iranian Copper Industries Company (NICICO) says some 235,000 tons of copper were produced over the past Iranian calendar year (ending March 19, 2012).
Saad mohammadi made the announcement on Saturday, adding that the NICICO plans to produce 700,000 tons of copper during the current Iranian calendar year (started March 20). He added that the company plans to set up two new plants for the production of copper concentrates by the end of the current Iranian year, IRNA reported.
Saad mohammadi said the implementation of the plan began last year and the plants are expected to come on stream by the year’s end.
He added that the NICICO constantly seeks to advance its mining technologies to explore and produce more copper.
The company director also noted that the total amount of copper ore processed from mines amounted to 124 million tons last year, and it will increase to 200 million tons this year.
