Egypt Post wins permanent seat on Universal Postal Union

Egyptian postal authority, Egypt Post has won a permanent membership of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) for four years.

The Egyptian authority was granted this seat in the elections held in the 26thCongress of the Universal Postal Union.With its 192 member countries, the UPU is the primary forum for cooperation between postal sector players. It helps ensure a truly universal network of up-to-date products and services.

Essam El-Saghir, Egypt Post’s Chairman said that this year witnessed a fierce competition between member countries to win this seat. The UPU fulfils an advisory, mediating and liaison role, and provides technical assistance where needed. It sets the rules for international mail exchanges and makes recommendations to stimulate growth in mail, parcel and financial services volumes and improve quality of service for customers.

Through this membership, Egypt will help set fair postal policies for the benefit of all Arab and African countries, El-Saghir added.

Egypt Post has significantly contributed to the global postal sector and will continue to benefit from the UPU’s work strategies to keep the work always up-to-date, said the Egyptian official.

Egypt co-founded the UPU since inception and chaired a number of technical and administrative committees.
