Obama declares major disaster in North Carolina due to Hurricane Matthew

U.S. President Barack Obama declared on Monday a state of emergency in North Carolina after Hurricane Matthew roared through the state over the weekend, the White House said.

The action makes federal funding available to affected individuals in 10 counties hit by the storm, the White House said in a statement.
