7 Egyptian contractors vying to win mandates for Africa projects

Egypt’s seven major construction firms are negotiating with Mauritius, 2,400 km (1.5 miles) off the southeast coast of Africa, to implement a tunnel and social housing project within the next period, an official said on Tuesday.

Mauritius is currently in talks with African Development Bank to get around $500 million to fund the works, Chairman of Egyptian Federation for Construction and Building Contractors (EFCBC) Hassan Abdel Aziz further told Amwal Al Ghad.

“A delegation of seven Egyptian firms operating in the construction sector visited Mauritius, where they hold meeting with the ministers of housing, infrastructure, and social affairs and the officials of roads and bridges during the last period,” Abdel Aziz added.

The Egyptian official said that EFCBC is preparing for an important visit by a delegation of Mauritius, headed by the minister of infrastructure and a number of senior officials in the country within next October.

This delegation will attend the opening of a bunch of tunnel flagships in Suez Canal and the social housing projects in Egypt, in terms of the units’ spaces and finishing works, Abdel Aziz said.
