Egypt, the world’s biggest wheat importer, has purchased180,000 tonnes of wheat from Russia and Romania in an international bid, an official said on Wednesday.
Under the deal, 120,000 tonnes of wheat will be bought from Russia, the world’s top exporter, and 60,000 from Romania, deputy head of the General Authority For Supply Commodities (GASC) Ahmed Youssef was quoted as saying by state news agency MENA.
The shipment will be delivered between 1-10 February, he added.
Last month, a report by Egypt’s agriculture ministry said the country has imported over 10 million tonnes of wheat from nine countries in Eastern Europe and Asia since January, with the lion’s share from Russia.
