Russian artist Stupnikova inaugurates Egypt’s first show
In her first exhibition in Egypt, Russian artist Marina Stupnikova expressed her happiness at visiting Egypt for the first time and to hold a visual art exhibition at the Russian Cultural Centre.
Entitled “World Perception”, the exhibition was opened this week by Hamdy Abul-Maati, the president of the Plastic Artists Syndicate, the director of the Russian Cultural Centre in Cairo Aleksey Tevanyan, the director of the Cultural Programme at the Russian Centre in Cairo Sherif Gad, and visual artist Ibrahim Ghazala.
“I am happy to say that my upcoming exhibition will be on the historical cities in Egypt, especially that I will visit Cairo and Alexandria, which are ancient and historical cities that include many cultures and civilisations whether Pharaonic, Coptic or Islamic. It is a great opportunity for any foreign artist to visit Egypt,” she said.
She also said that she has in mind another theme for a new exhibition in the near future in which the hero will be the Egyptian man with all his culture, simplicity, good spirit, warm feelings and hospitality.
“And now I enjoy touring archaeological and historical areas in Cairo and will move to Alexandria in the coming days,” she added.
Tevanyan said that the organisation of an exhibition of Russian plastic art comes within the framework of the keenness to develop comprehensive relations between Egypt and Russia in all fields preparing to celebrate 2020 the Egypt-Russia cultural year based on the decisions of presidents Vladimir Putin and Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, as they decided that 2020 is the year of Egyptian and Russian culture.
Artist Ibrahim Ghazala, commissaire of the Luxor International Painting Symposium, stressed the importance of the role played by the Russian Cultural Centre in introducing Russian artists and their creations to the Egyptian artistic scene, and also working on the participation of Egyptian visual artists in international artistic shows in Russia, to introduce Egyptian art to art lovers in Russia.
