European stocks were trading flat to slightly lower on Wednesday, with investors looking ahead to the Jackson Hole, Wyo., economic forum featuring a speech from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke this weekend.
The Stoxx Europe 600 index was flat at 267.18, with shares of Bouygues SA and L’Oreal SA off 6% and 3.7%, respectively after earnings results from those companies late the prior day. Shares of Rio Tinto PLC fell nearly 2% after confirming the Norwegian Central Bank had sold shares in the miner.
The FTSE 100 index fell 0.3% to 5,757.31, weighed by Rio Tinto. The German DAX 30 index was flat at 7,003.92 and the French CAC 40 index was flat at 3,433.23.
