Sisi meets with World Bank’s ECO Kristalina Georgieva in Cairo
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met in Cairo on Tuesday with Kristalina Georgieva, the Chief Executive Officer of the World Bank and a candidate for the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), announced the Egyptian presidency in a statement.
During the meeting, Sisi discussed the Egyptian government’s efforts to support developmental financing policies in cooperation with international financial institutions to achieve comprehensive development in Africa, especially in the fields of energy, electricity linkage, and railways.
Sisi underscored the importance of Africa’s voice being heard by international financial institutions when it comes to setting their priorities.
The World Bank official praised the success of the economic and social reform programme Egypt has adopted over the last three years.
She also reviewed with the Egyptian president the IMF’s development financing plans in Africa during the upcoming period.
Georgieva also stressed that the IMF’s plans in the coming period include encouraging developed countries to adopt open economic policies that are responsive to the development plans of developing countries, including facilitating trade and investment movement.
