Alexandria ports closed for third day as rain, winds persist

Egypt’s Mediterranean coastal city of Alexandria’s saw two of its vital ports closed for the third day running Sunday due to unstable weather and high wind speeds, state news agency MENA reported.

Port Authority spokesperson Reda El-Ghandour told MENA that Alexandria Bughazi and Dakheila ports were being kept closed to ensure navigational safety and prevent ships from colliding with each other or with the ports’ docks.

Egypt has been experiencing a cold spell since Friday accompanied by high wind speeds, sandstorms and rainfall.

Temperatures in Alexandria on Sunday are expected to reach a high of 20 and low of 12 degrees Celsius.

High waves are expected on the Mediterranean Sea on Sunday, reaching heights of 2.5 to three metres.

Egypt’s Red Sea will experience more stable conditions with waves ranging from 1.5 to two metres.
