Amal El Sheikh first female managing director at Shell Egypt

Egyptian Amal El Sheikh shared her experience at Egypt Petroleum Show (EGYPS) 2023 in Cairo on Wednesday, about how she became the first female chairwoman and managing director of Shell Lubricants in Egypt.

She added that 25 percent of employees at Shell are women and about 16 percent of women hold leadership positions, mentioning that she assigned for this position since 2019 with around 28 years of experience in the field of lubricants.

El Sheikh made her remarks during an interview, where she spoke about her childhood and upbringing in Austria. She learned German and continued her education in German after her return to Egypt.

She also mentioned the difficulties that she faced as a woman in the field of marine sales and about how it was hard for people to accept her at the beginning to hold such a solemn position like this.

El Sheikh started her career at Shell in 1994 as a branding and communications executive for two years, then she started her work as a marine sales expert for another five years.

In 2016, she moved to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and assigned to be a general manager distributor in Shell and Vivo Lubricants for three years.

Noteworthy, El Sheikh was graduated from the Faculty of Commerce at Ain Shams University, and started in Lufthansa her first job as a sales agent.
