AmCham to knock doors of US-Egypt economic ties in April: chief

The American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt (AmCham Egypt) will be sending its annual door-knock mission to the U.S. on April 17, its president Anis Aclimandos told Amwal Al Ghad Sunday.

“In April, AmCham Egypt will be travelling to Washington, DC on its annual Door-knock Mission which it has been conducting for the last 33 years.” Aclimandos said

The mission seeks to strengthen Egypt’s strategic economic partnership with the United States as well as to boost the U.S. investments in the Egyptian market.

U.S. investments in Egypt currently account to US$ 22 billion approximately, the AmCham official added.

Aclimandos expected that mission would include 35 companies in addition to some government and banking officials, set to meet with the U.S. Administration, Congressional Members, think tanks, and media representatives in order to boost Egypt’s exports to the U.S. market.

The mission will also discuss with the U.S. officials available opportunities to invest in particularly in energy and agriculture sectors in Egypt and to take part in the country’s anticipated mega projects such as the Suez Canal Corridor, he said.

Earlier, AmCham Egypt has inaugurated in January a new head office in Virginia, Southern of United States, under the chairmanship of Hisham Fahmy. The new head office is set to bolster the trade and investment activities between Egypt and the United States as well as to enable Egyptian private sector firms to explore more export opportunities in the U.S. markets.
