Apple tops list of highest value tech companies in 2016

Apple ranked first on the list of top brand values among telecommunications and information technology (IT) companies worldwide in 2016, according to a report issued by Brand Finance.

According to the asset and brand valuation consultancy firm’s report, Apple’s brand value increased from $128.3bn in 2015 to $145.9bn this year, maintaining first place for the second year in a row.

According to the report, Google jumped up by one place in the rankings, acquiring second place instead of third place in 2015 after the value of its brand increased from $76.6bn in 2015 to $94.1bn in 2016.

Samsung came in third place on the list, with its brand value estimated at $83.1bn, against $81.7bn in 2015. The e-commerce site Amazon ranked fourth; its value was estimated at $69.6bn, moving up four places from its ranking in 2015.

Microsoft dropped to fifth place in the 2016 rankings, from fourth place in 2015. The report estimated the value of the company’s brand at $67.2bn in 2016, compared to $67bn in 2015.

The report indicated that Verizon communications company came in sixth place, falling by one rank from 2015. Its value was estimated at $63.1bn, compared to $59.8bn in 2015.

AT&T came in seventh place on the list, with its brand value evaluated to be $59.9bn while China Mobile took the eighth spot, its brand value having registered at $49.8bn. General Electric (GE) ranked ninth, with a brand value of $37.2bn.

According to the Brand Finance report, Facebook comes in 10th and final place at the commercial value of $34bn.
