China’s Megaun selects Egypt to build its first electronics factory in MENA

China’s Megaun Group is planning to establish its first factory in Egypt and the Middle East for mobile phones and tablets. The factory is set to be built in Egypt’s Borg El Arab Technology Park.

Egyptian Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, in the presence of Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser El-kady, received Tuesday a delegation from China Megan Group.

Ismail asserted the importance of the Egyptian Market referring to the possibility to promote the factory’s products to the COMESA markets in line with preferential trade agreements with COMESA.

The new factory will be a turning point in manufacturing of mobile phones and tablets in Egypt and the Middle East region. The factory is to start assembling components in January 2017 to begin the full manufacturing in January 2018, directing at least 65 percent of the factory’s production capacity for exporting.

The project is with a capital of 100 million Egyptian pounds ($11.26 million) and is expected to provide more than 450 direct job opportunities.
