Diana’s Swan Lake Suite heading to auction

A necklace designed for Princess Diana by the official British crown jewelers, Garrard is to be auctioned on June 27.

Diana wore the necklace to a Swan Lake performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall early in 1997. Along a pair of matching earrings, they are known as the Swan Lake Suite.

Unfortunately, the princess did not wear the earnings, and wore the necklace only once. The earnings had not been completed yet by the time of the performance.

The Swan Lake Suite is the only fine jewellery worn by Diana ever to be sold, as according to Gurnsey’s website, the Suites’ current owner is a prominent Ukrainian family.

The family’s “ability to maintain their business” has been affected in the aftermath of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Consequently, the family resorted to Guernsey’s to resell the jewellery.

“She had designed a magnificent necklace and matching earrings utilising hundreds of diamonds plus South Sea pearls that were her favourites,” founder and president of Guernsey’s, Arlan Ettinger stated.

The Princess, also known to be England’s Patron of Dance, has attributed great significant to the ballet performance, Ettinger explained.

“It was said that she was photographed more often that night wearing this necklace than on any other occasion of her life, except for her wedding day,” Ettinger added.
