Kuwait launches direct flights to Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh

Kuwait is launching new direct flights to Sharm El-Sheikh as of early December 2015, to support Egypt’s tourism industry and to encourage more Gulf tourists into the Egyptian resort, according to Kuwaiti Minister of Information.

Egypt’s tourism industry is facing several challenges following travel ban decisions from several countries fearing possible attacks by Islamic State, which recently claimed responsibility for downing the Russian plane in Sinai.

The tourist industry generates more than 11 percent of Egypt’s GDP.

Kuwaiti Minister Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah has hold a meeting in Cairo Sunday with Egyptian Tourism Minister Hisham Zazou today to announce this news and reiterating Kuwait’s permanent support to Egypt.

In addition, Salman stressed full confidence in the Egyptian economy, security and stability, expressing readiness to offer Egypt all types of technical and administrative support.

From his part, Egyptian minister Hisham Zaazou underscored the importance of the Kuwaiti tourism to Egypt.
The Kuwaiti and Saudi tourism is the main sources of Arab tourism to Egypt “even at the worst times,” he said.
