Egypt’s Investment Minister Mohamed Farid and Amazon Egypt discussed the company’s expansion plans on Tuesday, as the government seeks to attract technology-driven investment and strengthen the country’s position as a regional hub for e-commerce and digital services.
Farid met Amazon Egypt General Manager Omar Elsahy to review the company’s growth plans and discuss expanding cooperation in digital trade, outsourcing, and business services, the ministry said in a statement.
The minister said the government was working to improve the investment climate by removing obstacles facing investors and supporting domestic and foreign investment, particularly in digital economy sectors. He added that the ministry would continue to engage with the business community and coordinate with relevant authorities to address regulatory issues within the existing legal framework.
Elsahy said Egypt remained a strategic market for Amazon’s regional expansion plans, highlighting the company’s continued investment in logistics infrastructure and operational capabilities.
He said Amazon’s customer service centre in Egypt had become one of the company’s regional hubs, providing multilingual support to international markets, including countries in Africa and Mexico, while supporting the country’s growing business process outsourcing sector.
Elsahy added that Amazon was helping Egyptian manufacturers and businesses reach international markets through its e-commerce platform and aimed to expand cooperation with government entities to promote exports and support businesses through digital transformation tools.
The two sides agreed to continue coordinating on Amazon’s expansion plans in Egypt, support the growth of e-commerce, and enable more Egyptian companies to access international markets through digital platforms, according to the ministry.
