Egypt, DP World discuss new logistics investments

Egypt’s investment authority discussed DP World’s expansion plans and new logistics investment opportunities on Wednesday, as the government seeks to strengthen the country’s position as a regional trade and logistics hub.

The meeting was between General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) Chief Executive, Mohamed Awad, and a DP World delegation. It followed earlier talks this week between Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Mohamed Farid and the company’s senior executives, the Investment Ministry said in a statement.

The discussions covered DP World’s plans to expand its operations in Egypt and explored investment opportunities in ports, logistics services, warehousing, distribution, and supply chain management.

DP World operates Sokhna Port on Egypt’s Red Sea coast, one of the country’s main trade gateways linking domestic markets with regional and global supply chains.

Awad said Egypt was committed to supporting international investors by facilitating investment projects in coordination with relevant government authorities. He added that the proposed investment opportunities were selected to align with DP World’s global expertise and expansion strategy, with GAFI providing a dedicated point of contact to coordinate with government agencies and accelerate project assessments.

DP World said Egypt remained one of its strategic markets in the Middle East and North Africa, citing its location on major international shipping routes and growth opportunities in ports and integrated logistics services.

The two sides agreed to continue discussions on the proposed investment opportunities and implementation mechanisms as DP World advances its expansion plans in Egypt, the ministry said.
