Egypt, OPEC discuss strengthening strategic partnership

Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum Karim Badawy met with OPEC Secretary-General Haitham Al Ghais on Tuesday on the sidelines of the ADIPEC 2025 in Abu Dhabi to discuss strengthening the strategic cooperation between with the oil producers’ group.

According to a ministry statement, the talks focused on expanding information exchange and technical collaboration with OPEC, including the adoption of international best practices in exploration and field development to boost Egypt’s production capacity.

Badawy praised OPEC’s role in maintaining oil market stability and managing price fluctuations, saying deeper strategic coordination between Egypt and the organisation would help achieve shared objectives. He also commended OPEC’s analytical work and energy outlooks, noting their alignment with global market trends.

The minister reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to enhancing its participation as an observer in OPEC activities and extended an invitation for Al Ghais to deliver a keynote address at EGYPES 2026 in Cairo.
