Egypt plans to bring Taurt-6 gas well onstream by year-end

Egypt plans to bring the Taurt-6 well onstream before the end of the year, targeting production of 40 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, the Petroleum Ministry said on Sunday.

The target was outlined by Hossam Zaki, chairman of Pharaonic Petroleum Company (PhPC), during a briefing for Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawy at the company’s production site in Port Said.

Zaki said the company was pursuing production and exploration opportunities in the Ras El Bar, North Damietta, and offshore El Borg areas.

Pharaonic Petroleum is also drilling the West Atoll exploratory well using the Valaris DS-12 rig, with investment of about $91 million and a planned depth of up to 6,000 metres, Zaki said.

The company’s exploration programme also includes plans to drill another well in the Ras El Bar area.

The projects form part of Egypt’s broader efforts to increase natural gas production by accelerating exploration and making greater use of existing infrastructure as the government seeks to strengthen domestic supplies.
