Egypt reviews digital transformation plan to protect public funds, improve state efficiency

Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly chaired a meeting on Sunday to review progress on implementing President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to expand digital transformation, aimed at protecting public funds, improving the efficiency of state institutions, and strengthening governance.

Madbouly said dedicated working groups are overseeing the implementation of the president’s directives, announced during the inauguration of the Strategic Command Headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, according to a set timetable.

Communications and Information Technology Minister Raafat Hindi said the strategy focuses on modernising government operations, expanding digital services, strengthening digital governance, and enhancing secure data exchange across government entities through a secure digital infrastructure and the Digital Egypt platform.

Hindy said the second version of the Digital Identity application has been launched with biometric verification, while 105 government entities have been connected through the Government Digital Hub, and 100 national databases have been linked. He added that the Digital Egypt platform now offers 242 services and has processed around 20 million transactions since the beginning of 2026.

The minister said the government is piloting the Digital Treasury, expanding electronic signature and seal services, and preparing to launch the Digital Mailbox system as digital transformation extends across key sectors, including healthcare, education, justice, social protection, business, food security, and labour.

Madbouly called for sustainable funding for the Digital Egypt platform and instructed ministers to submit action plans to accelerate the implementation of the presidential directives.
