Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly held a meeting on Sunday to follow up on the status of phosphate ore industry projects and efforts to expand value-added production from the raw material. The meeting was attended by Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi alongside other senior officials.
Madbouly affirmed the government’s keen interest in the sector, citing Egypt’s comparative advantage in phosphate. He pointed to the state’s ongoing efforts to maximise the benefits derived from the country’s phosphate reserves and increase production of phosphatic and compound fertilisers to meet domestic needs while targeting expansion into global markets.
The Prime Minister also highlighted efforts to localise industries based on phosphate ore as part of a broader shift away from exporting raw materials toward manufacturing phosphatic fertilizers and other derived products.
The meeting reviewed phosphate ore reserves across the country, production capacity, and the status of phosphate fertiliser plants.
