Egypt, S. Africa boost higher education, research Cooperation

Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Ayman Ashour, met with South Africa’s Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Blade Nzimande, to enhance collaboration between higher education institutions in both countries, according to a Cabinet statement.

Discussions focused on expanding partnerships in key sectors, including energy, water, health, industry, agriculture, and technology.

Ashour highlighted Egypt’s commitment to fostering innovation and scientific research to support industry and the national economy under the Alliance and Development Presidential Initiative.

He underscored the vital role of universities in achieving this initiative’s objectives, in line with Egypt’s National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research and Vision 2030.

The meeting also reviewed the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, a presidential initiative that has strengthened Egypt’s research landscape and improved the global ranking of its universities and research institutions. The platform provides extensive academic and research resources to support education and scientific advancement.

Both ministers reaffirmed the importance of maximising the impact of existing agreements and explored new avenues for collaboration through additional academic and research partnerships to enhance mutual benefits.
