Egypt to chair Arab Civil Aviation Organisation General Assembly for 2 years

Egypt was elected to chair the General Assembly of the Arab Civil Aviation Organisation (ACAO) for a two-year term on Wednesday and was re-elected to the organisation’s Executive Council during its meeting in Rabat.

Egypt also secured seats on several ACAO technical committees, according to the Civil Aviation Ministry.

Ahead of the General Assembly, ACAO’s Executive Council discussed aviation safety and security, air navigation, digital transformation, environmental sustainability and coordination on regional positions ahead of upcoming International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) meetings.

The council also agreed on a unified Arab position to support greater Arab representation on the ICAO Council ahead of the organisation’s Extraordinary Assembly.

The General Assembly approved the appointment of Khalid El Sharkawy as Director General of ACAO, succeeding Abdennabi Manar.

Egypt thanked Manar for his service and congratulated El Sharkawy on his appointment.
