Egypt to unveil social protection package before Ramadan, salary hike in July

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly announced on Thursday that Egypt will implement a new social protection package ahead of Ramadan, with public sector salary increases set to take effect in July at the start of the new fiscal year.

Speaking at a press conference, Prime Minister Madbouly emphasised that the private sector has voluntarily agreed to raise minimum wages, a significant shift from previous years when many businesses sought exemptions. The National Wages Council, alongside state authorities, is monitoring compliance to ensure fair implementation.

The social protection package will be introduced in two phases. The first, poised for the next three months, will focus on Ramadan and Eid-related financial support. The second phase will bring official salary and wage increases for government employees in July.

The prime minister also highlighted that the government is finalising the package’s details and will soon present it to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, with an official announcement expected before Ramadan.
