Egypt, Uzbekistan sign 7 MoUs in 5 sectors

Egypt and Uzbekistan have signed on Sunday seven MoU’s (MoU) of $1.6 billion in the fields of electricity, energy, textile, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare, according to the official Uzbek media on Tuesday.

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has arrived Egypt on an official visit on February 20 to attend the forum with ministers and heads of industry associations from the two countries, and discussed means of bilateral cooperation.

The Egyptian and Uzbek sides agreed to establish joint industrial zone, in addition to implementing joint projects in mining, leather, and infrastructure sectors, and cooperating in construction and pharmaceuticals.

Official Uzbek media referred to the president praising the results of the forum, at which it was negotiated to implement more than 20 agreements and contracts worth $1.6 billion.

Egyptian industry heads said they view Uzbekistan as a bridge to reach Central Asian markets. Uzbek Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade Kudratov Laziz Shavkatovic stated that Egypt could be Uzbekistan’s gateway to consumer-rich African markets.
