Egyptian fishermen detained in Libya return home

Sixteen Egyptian fishermen who were detained in Libya for almost 9 months for illegal trespassing the Libyan territorial waters, Ahram Arabic website reported.

The fishermen returned to Cairo through Tunisia.

The fishermen, originally from Kafr El-Sheikh governorate were arrested 9 months ago for illegal fishing and trespassing the Libyan territorial waters and were detained at one of the Libyan prisons by Libyan authorities.

The Egyptian foreign ministry held talks with the Libyan authorities in Tripoli as well as local tribes, to release and transfer them to Tunisia.

This is the latest incidents involving Egyptian fishermen arrested in the territorial waters of neighboring countries like Sudan, Libya and Tunisia.

Egypt’s foreign ministry has repeatedly intervened in these cases to ensure the release of the fishermen and warned against trespassing in foreign waters.
