Egyptian wages surge 16.8% in ’23 – CAPMAS
The average monthly wage for employees in both the public and private sectors in Egypt increased by 16.8 per cent in 2023, as per latest data released by the country’s official statistics agency CAPMAS.
The average salary rose from 4,284 Egyptian pounds in 2022 to 5,005 pounds in 2023.
Despite this overall increase, there is still a sizable salary difference between the public and private sectors. Employees in the public sector continue to earn substantially higher wages, with an average monthly salary of 12,401 pounds compared to 4,675 pounds in the private sector.
The report also highlighted gender disparities in wages. Male employees in both the public and private sectors earn an average of 5,128 pounds per month, while female employees earn an average of 4,439 pounds.
