Egypt’s cement exports hit 1mn tons in first 5 months of 2022 – official

Egypt’s exports of cement have doubled to one million tons during the first five months of the year, compared to 530,000 tons during the same period last year, said Misr Cement Qena Group’s managing director on Monday.

Speaking at the seventh edition of the Builders of Egypt Forum, Tarek Talaat added that the country’s clinker cement exports also increased to about 2.7 million tons, compared to 987 thousand tons last year, he added.

The growth was driven by the government’s export support programme, Talaat explained.

There is a great opportunity for the Egyptian cement industry to open new export markets across Africa since many African countries are still cement importers due to the lack of production and expertise, he noted.

Talaat added that Egypt can fill these African countries’ needs whether exporting to them complete or semi-complete cement products, or providing the expertise and investment to establish cement factories there.
