Egypt’s Electricity completes installing 2.4m pre-paid smart metres, 250K more are underway

The Egyptian Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Centre (IDSC) denied rumors saying that Egypt halted exports of electricity smart metres after floating the Egyptian pound.

The IDSC has contacted the Ministry of Electricity which in turn said that this news was baseless asserting that four local companies already approached the ministry to apply for bids to supply a million smart pre-paid electricity metres.

The ministry said that it will study all the offers to pick the best candidate in terms of high quality and reasonable prices provided that it will start the delivery process four months after signing contracts.

Egyptian ministry of electricity is currently carrying out trial operation of 250,000 smart metres in collaboration with six local electricity distributors.

Moreover, the ministry announced it has finalised installation of 2.4 million pre-paid electricity smart metres so far.
