Egypt’s food exports hit 210,000 tons in one week – NFSA

Egypt exported around 210,000 tons of food products in about 5,000 shipments to 162 countries between 29 Aug. and 4 Sept., the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) said in its weekly report on Sunday.

The shipments were exported by 1,510 companies and included around 800 food products, ranging from fresh fruits and vegetables to preserved produce, flour, grain products, and other food items, the authority said.

Vegetable exports totalled 58,000 tons across 42 varieties. Potatoes accounted for the largest share at 21,000 tons, followed by onions at 13,000 tons and beans at 7,000 tons.

Egypt exported 35,000 tons of fruit across 32 varieties during the week, with strawberries leading at 11,000 tons, followed by mangoes at 8,000 tons and pomegranates at 5,000 tons.

Sudan was the largest importer of Egyptian food products during the week, followed by Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, Tunisia, and the United Arab Emirates, among the 162 countries that received Egyptian food exports, the NFSA said.
