Egypt’s issued banknote reach EGP 1.232t in April – CBE

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) reported that issued banknote reached 1.232 trillion Egyptian pound by April 2024, compared to 1.145 trillion pound at the end of December 2023.

This represents a surge of 7.6 per cent in the issued banknote in April 2024. Furthermore, the CBE revealed that the banknotes ratio to GDP climbed to 9.52 per cent by April 2024, up from 8.84 per cent at the end of the previous year.

The value of 200-pound denomination rose to 781.356 billion pound in April from 732.654 billion pound in December. The 100-pound banknotes also increased from 345.345 billion pound to 375.06 billion pound.

Additionally, the 50-pound banknotes saw growth, increasing from 41.212 billion pound to 45.806 billion pound.
