Sisi discusses North Sinai situation with ministers of interior and defence

Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi discussed the latest developments in North Sinai with Minister of Defence Sedky Sobhi and Minister of Interior Magdy Abdel-Ghaffar following their inspection of police and army forces in the governorate on Tuesday, the Egyptian presidency said.

The two ministers presented a report to the president about the security situation in North Sinai and the procedures taken by the army and police to fight terrorism and ensure stability and security.

As the ministers were conducting their field visit in North Sinai’s El-Arish, the city’s airport was hit in a missile attack that killed one military officer and injured two other people, according to the Armed Forces.

The attack caused “partial damage” to a helicopter, and Armed Forces personnel “dealt with the source” of the attack, the Egyptian army spokesman said on Tuesday without providing further details.

The two ministers returned to Cairo early Wednesday morning.

The head of General Intelligence Khaled Fawzi and the head of Military Intelligence Mohamed Farag Shehata also attended the meeting.
