El-Sisi Meets With African Union Delegation

Presidential hopeful Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi met on Monday with an African Union delegation headed by former Malian president Alpha Omar Konare, Al-Ahram’s Arabic news website reported.

During the meeting, they discussed issues related to the current situation in Egypt.

The delegation expressed their support to Egypt’s transitional road map that was announced last July following the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi.

Meanwhile, the delegation condemned all terrorist attacks that have been taking place lately in Egypt.

Members also expressed their appreciation for the crucial role Egypt has been playing and its support for African issues.

The delegation also said that they are looking forward to restoring Egypt’s membership to the union.

Egypt was suspended from the AU after the ouster of Morsi, the first democratically elected president of the country.

The delegation said that they would be meeting with all other presidential candidates.

The only candidates to have declared their intentions to run in the elections set for May are Hamdeen Sabahi, who finished third in the 2012 elections, ex-minister of defence El-Sisi, whose popularity soared following Morsi’s ouster, and controversial lawyer Mortada Mansour.
