The European Commission imposed on Thursday definitive anti-dumping duties on mobile access equipment (MAE) imports from China. The new duties, ranging from 20.6 per cent to 54.9 per cent, aim to shield the EU’s mobile access equipment industry, which employs over 3,000 workers across eight Member States, from unfair competition.
The measures come after a thorough anti-dumping investigation revealed that Chinese producers were selling mobile access equipment in the EU at artificially low prices, causing significant harm to European manufacturers. Despite favourable market conditions and rising demand in recent years, EU producers have lost substantial market share to these dumped imports.
MAEs, crucial for the construction industry and operations requiring workers to access elevated areas for tasks such as installing electrical or telecom equipment, are essential to many sectors across the EU. With annual sales of €1 billion, the mobile access equipment industry plays a vital role in the EU economy.
