Honda withdraws vehicles to fix seat belt problem

Japanese carmaker, Honda has announced on Wednesday that it is withdrawing a half-million vehicles from the American and Canadian markets upon a seat belt issue, according to NHTSA report.

In a document released on Wednesday by U.S. Safety Regulators, the firm explained that it is possible the release button shrinks under conditions of low temperature. This would stop the buckle from locking, increasing injury risks consequently.

Withdrawn vehicles will have the font seat belt buckle or its buttons replaced, according to the need. Recalled models include the Acura RDX from the 2019 and 2020 model years and the 2019 Insight among others.

Vehicles’ owners will be notified by letter starting April 17, as the company says it did not receive any reports of injuries caused by the seatbelt defect. The company has also recalled more than 100,000 vehicles last February for display boot up issue.
