IBM to pause hiring to replace 7,800 jobs with AI

International Business Machines Corp (IBM) is expecting to pause hiring to replace 7,800 jobs by AI, according to CEO Arvind Krishna told Bloomberg News on Monday.

Hiring will be paused, specifically in the back office including human resources jobs, Krishna said. He also added that 30 percent of non-customer-facing roles could be replaced by automations and AI in five years.

His comment came amid a vast AI allure that has caught people around the world after the launch of Microsoft Corp-backed OpenAI’s viral chatbot, ChatGPT, in November last year.

The hiring reduction could include not replacing roles vacated by attrition, the PC-maker told Bloomberg.
