India has granted some countries like Mauritius, Bhutan, and Singapore an exemption on its recently imposed comprehensive export restrictions to control domestic prices, according to Asharq Business on Thursday.
The world’s largest rice exporter has agreed to sell 79 1,000 tons of non-basmati white rice to Bhutan, 50,000 tons to Singapore, and 14,000 tons to Mauritius, India’s Ministry of Commerce announced on Wednesday.
Last month, India had banned the export of non-basmati rice to curb rising prices. It has imposed a 20 percent tax on parboiled rice exports, set a minimum export price on aromatic basmati and banned shipments of non-basmati white.
