Melissa Barrera, Susan Sarandon lose jobs for solidarity with Palestine

Melissa Barrera and Susan Sarandon among other actors lost their jobs for showing solidarity with Palestine, international press reported on Tuesday.

Susan Sarandon

On Tuesday, Academy Award-winning actress Susan Sarandon was dropped by her talent agency for comments she made at a pro-Palestinian rally last week.

“There are a lot of people afraid of being Jewish at this time, and are getting a taste of what it feels like to be a Muslim in this country.” Sarandon said.

The actress also encouraged people to speak up about what it happening in Palestine and to not be influenced by “brainwashing,”.

Melissa Barrera

Mexican actress Melissa Barrera was also fired from the cast of the upcoming thriller Scream VII, in which she was set to play the leading role in the franchise.

Barrera, 33, has used her social media platform to showcase her support for the Palestinian cause since the beginning of the aggression.

She has been resharing Instagram posts and articles saying that the Israeli attacks are “genocide and ethnic cleansing” and referring to Israel as a “colonised land.”

Barrera wrote on Instagram stories “Western media only shows the other side.” therefore she needs to share the true story on her account.

The actress also shared a post from Jewish Currents that included a reference to “the distortion of the Holocaust to boost the Israeli arms industry.”

Spyglass Media Group, the production company behind Scream VII, said in a statement Tuesday: “Spyglass’ stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for anti-semitism or the incitement of hate in any form,”

These include “false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”

Barrera had previously spoken out against anti-semitism on the 27th of October.

She said “It is important for me to clarify that when I say Free Palestine, I do not in any way mean: Kill all Jews.”

Barrera also said that she wanted freedom and safety for Palestines and Jews around the world.

“At the end of the day, I’d rather be excluded for who I include, than be included for who I exclude.”

Maha Dakhil

CAA agent Maha Dakhil was also demoted by the talent agency when she said: “What’s more heartbreaking than witnessing genocide? Witnessing the denial that genocide is happening,”

Actor Tom Cruise showed support for Dakhil after she has been under attack for days.
